Yesterday I saw something that really struck a chord with me. I was stuck in traffic on the highway because of a wreck up ahead. I became aware of the people around me for some reason. The first person that caught my attention was a lady on her phone. She didn’t seem to be very happy. I’m not sure what was going on, but she was yelling and hitting her steering wheel and dashboard with her hand. She was frustrated. I’m sure the traffic wasn’t helping at all.
Then I noticed a man just a few cars away from her, stuck in the same traffic. He was hitting his steering wheel as well. But he wasn’t using his hands, he was using drum sticks. And he didn’t seem the least bit frustrated. Now to be honest, I don’t know this guy’s story outside of the 5 seconds I saw him as I drove past. I would like to think that he was an optimist who saw the traffic as an opportunity to improve his skill of drumming.
It was interesting to see two people in the same situation responding so differently.
When you are frustrated at your circumstances, it’s more than likely because you have yet to allow your perspective to shift.
‘Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus’ – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
It’s God’s will for us to be thankful in all circumstances. Our upholding this command is for our benefit, not for God’s. I believe it’s his heart for his children to be joyful in all situations because of their trust and faith in Him.
Today, choose joy, pray constantly, and be thankful, no matter what is going on around you.
