‘Let there be light.’ God spoke something into existence with that statement. Why didn’t He say ‘Let there be no more darkness’? Instead of addressing the thing that was already there, He spoke to the thing He wanted to have life.
I feel like we often focus on the thing we want to get rid of instead of focusing on the thing that we want to have. What if instead of saying, ‘I don’t want to be angry anymore’ you said, ‘I want to be joyful.’ The problem with the first statement is that it focuses on the negative thing we are often trying to get rid of. It’s the old, don’t think about pink elephants adage. When we focus on what we are trying to achieve it gives us direction.
